TLPA Community Connections

Logo: TLPA Community ConnectionsAs part of an international organization of 1,000 member fleets representing 100,000 vehicles carrying 900 million passengers a year, TLPA members are in a unique and powerful position to make a difference in their local communities by donating funds and/or services to charitable efforts.

Under TLPA Community Connections, members providing charitable support to organizations and causes voluntarily notify TLPA of the financial amount of their giving. Some of the support comes in the form of cash donations. Other forms of support can include providing free rides, and then calculating the value of those rides.

Some may choose to make donations in the fight against breast cancer, while some may wish to provide veterans with free trips to treatment via Wounded Warrior. Others may decide to donate money to causes such as the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, schools, firefighters, the arts, the Audubon Society, or a myriad of other organizations. The choice is yours, and you may choose to participate in several charitable programs throughout the year.

These efforts position member companies and the entire industry in a positive public spotlight and in the past, they have garnered significant media attention across the country, promoted by both TLPA and by individual members. Also, every participating member is recognized for its charitable contributions in the summer issue of Transportation Leader and on our website.

The attention this program brings makes it a great public relations, driver recruitment and driver retention tool for our members and our industry.

Ways to Participate

There are two simple ways to participate:

  1. Make a donation to the charity of your choice and report it to TLPA by emailing the amount and name of charity to Hal Morgan, the association's executive vice president. Your report should cover your activities between May 1, 2016, and April 30, 2017. You can send in your report anytime between now and the close of business on June 30, 2017.

(or)

  1. Donate free rides to a charity program and then report the value and name of the charity to Morgan. Your report should cover your activities between May 1, 2016, and April 30, 2017. You can send in your report anytime between now and the close of business on June 30, 2017.

We urge all TLPA members to designate one person in their company to keep track of charitable efforts. By letting your good work be known, you will help TLPA illustrate to the public the generous and community-minded nature of our industry.

Last Year

TLPA member companies donated to charities throughout a 12-month period ending April 30, 2016. Thirty reported to TLPA that they donated a combined total of $1,132,363.27 to a wide variety of causes, including breast cancer, kidney disease, wounded veterans, hospitals, children's wish campaigns and educational funds.
