TLPA Applauds Federal Government’s Inclusion of Taxicabs and Liveries in Bill Providing Benefits Relief During Metro Repairs

(ROCKVILLE, Md.)—The Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA) applauds the federal government’s inclusion of taxicabs and liveries in the bill allowing federal workers to temporarily use their transit benefits on alternative forms of transportation while the Washington, DC Metrorail system undergoes extensive repairs.

The Transit Benefits Modernization Act (H.R. 6008), which was advanced by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee yesterday, allows federal workers to use taxicabs, liveries and other services, including Uber, during this time period.

The bill was introduced by Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) and Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA).

TLPA leadership applauded elected legislators’ fairness.

“By including taxicabs and liveries as alternative modes of transportation in this bill, lawmakers recognized the importance of a fair and level playing field for all providers of local passenger transportation services,” said Dwight Kines, TLPA President and Vice President of the Mid-Atlantic region for Transdev.
