With the restructuring of our dues for 2018, we’re interviewing members who’ve chosen the Leadership membership-service level to hear what they have to say about their work and what TLPA does for their companies.
One of the many things Transdev’s Bill George says he loves about working in transportation is: “You get to truly feel the heartbeat of your community.”
“In a local cab business, you’ve got your thumb on the pulse of the city. You know who is coming into town, what restaurants are hot, what the economy is doing. It’s an opportunity to become involved in every cross section of your community, from school children to the elderly to the disabled to millennials and young professionals. Whenever anything is going on, transportation is involved,” George says.
Transdev On Demand is the largest transportation provider in the world, and because of that, the company has the ability to tap into its resources for technologies that many smaller companies might not be able to access. And right now, George says, while the industry as a whole is facing challenges from ridesharing, it’s also a great opportunity for transportation providers.
“What we’re seeing is a massive influx of people using on-demand services,” George says. “Our biggest competition, historically, has been with people driving their own cars. Now, people are starting to change that behavior, and it is our job to figure out how to take advantage of that.”
As the industry keeps changing, George’s belief in the TLPA is unwavering. For him, the organization provides the industry an opportunity to unite, and that’s why he chooses to be a TLPA member.
“It’s important that we share information. It’s about all of us coming together. We should be doing what we can to improve customer service and to expand our territories,” he says.
