Eating Out in OKC, Sooner-Style

We’re psyched for the TLPA Spring Conference & Expo—and not just because of all the interesting speakers and educational sessions in the lineup. Here’s a highlight that will have your mouth watering: Our friends at 3 Taxi Guys are going to host a barbeque! And yeah, you can bet they’ll be breaking out their world-famous taxi-turned-grill.

Now, we know 3 Taxi Guys founders—and long-time TLPA members—Rick Hewatt, Jamie Campolongo and John Lazar are going to keep things “cabilicious” in Oklahoma City, but we’ll only get them for one night. So be sure to make plans now for OKC!

The rest of the time, we have all of OKC to explore in the search for culinary excellence. Here’s a list of some other foodie highlights in the city, courtesy of yours truly—and as a proud alum of the University of Oklahoma, I promise I’m not pulling your leg.

  1. For those looking for elegant dining in Bricktown, stop by Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse. The restaurant, named for an Oklahoma-born baseball great, has an extensive wine list with more than 500 selections, and the food is repeatedly recognized as some of Oklahoma’s best.
  2. Every trip requires a visit to the local pizza joint. Hideaway Pizza is that place in Oklahoma City. A local company that has expanded around the state, Hideaway is a Sooner fave.
  3. Serving great food with a southwestern flair in a classy location, Cheever’s Café is an OKC historical highlight. It’s definitely worth a visit while you’re in the area.
  4. The Drum Room is a great place to find that OKC vibe and check out local fare! It’s an example of classic Oklahoma, and one you definitely shouldn’t miss. It specializes in fried chicken.
  5. Crabtown and Pearl’s Oyster Bar are OKC’s seafood hotspots. If you want a taste of the ocean in the middle of the prairie, they’ve got you covered, and they have a Gluten-free menu, too!
  6. And after all that great food, don’t forget dessert: Pie Junkie is a locally owned and operated bakery that serves OKC’s best pies. Don’t take my word for it—check it out yourself!

And that’s just the top six, in the view of this former Sooner. Oklahoma City is full of great places to eat and cool things to see. Don’t delay—register now for the Spring Conference & Expo in April!
