TLPF's Jon Chester Memorial Fund Presents First Check
To Assist Florida Hurricane Victims
TLPF President Neal Nichols (right) presents
a check from the Jon Chester Memorial Fund to Major Ron Smith of the Salvation Army in Florida. The funds from TLPF will assist victims of the hurricanes and tropical storms that devastated Florida this past fall. |
The memorial fund established by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Foundation (TLPF) in honor of deceased TLPA member Jon Chester, Limousines by Linda, San Diego, Calif., presented its first check to the Salvation Army. The funds are for victims of the hurricanes that ravaged Florida in 2004. TLPF President Neal Nichols presented the check, in the amount of $800, to the Florida Salvation Army's Major Ron Smith on November 6 during the TLPA Annual Convention & Trade Show in Orlando.
The Jon Chester Memorial Fund is administered by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Foundation (TLPF), the charitable arm of the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA). For the next ten years, the TLPA Limousine & Sedan Steering Committee will select an annual recipient of the Jon Chester Memorial Fund. The award may be a scholarship to a limousine operator, a donation to a charity or some other worthy tribute to Jon Chester's memory. The Jon Chester Memorial Fund has drawn over $8,000 in contributions.
TLPA Board members Joey Cirruzzo, A-Elegant International Limousines, Staten Island, N.Y., and Michael Fogarty, BostonCoach Corporation, Everett, Mass., worked with TLPF in establishing the fund to honor Chester, who was active in TLPA, the National Limousine Association and the Greater California Livery Association. Over the course of his career, Chester, who also was a licensed attorney, had generously shared his knowledge with other operators and contributed time to industry organizations as a speaker and an officer. His professionalism and integrity won him the title of TLPA Limousine & Sedan Operator of the Year in 2000.
On Saturday, May 8, the establishment of the fund was announced at the TLPA Spring Conference in San Diego, and contributors were recognized. Jon Chester's ex-wife Linda Joy Crutcher Chester and his son Lewis Jackson Chester were present for the event.
To contribute to the Jon Chester Memorial Fund, please send a check made payable to TLPF (with Jon Chester Memorial Fund in the memo section) and send to: Jon Chester Memorial Fund, c/o TLPF, 3849 Farragut Ave., Kensington, MD 20895. Your contribution is tax-deductible as a charitable contribution.
