The Taxicab Industry

In the United States, there are approximately 6,300 companies operating 171,000 taxicabs. More than 80% of these companies operate less than 50 vehicles while 6% of taxicab operations have more than 100 vehicles in service. Taxicab companies provide work for 350,000 people and transport 1.4 billion passengers annually for purposes that primarily include business, travel, and community transportation. *

TLPA'S Taxicab Division

More than 500 taxicab companies are currently members of TLPA's Taxicab Division. These companies have access to information, educational seminars, legislative representation, industry experts, and a professional network of peers and suppliers that can't be found anywhere but TLPA.

In 2008, Taxicab Division members will see publication of this year's Taxicab Services Fact Book, an array of educational and professional development forums at the Spring Conference and Annual Convention & Trade Show.

These initiatives are at the direction of the Taxicab Steering Committee, a group of taxicab fleet operators who volunteer to take responsibility for the division's programs and services. The 2008 committee includes:
